This work appears to be a slightly shortened publication of a lecture given by George Reisner in 1911. This is a fascinating and very informative work, and at times revealing. It appears that the ancient Egyptian religion was a more powerful entity that I realized.Throughout this work, Reisner explains funerary practices, the pantheon of gods (which he states were various manifestations of the one god, Ra), the ancient calendar, and the religion’s effect on modern religions, including Christianity, Judaism, and Mohammedism. Reisner correctly states that the ancient Egyptian “loved life and hated death”. He shows and cites proof that the ancient Egyptians believed in an afterlife and that the earthly life itself was a preparatory means towards immortality.
I enjoyed this book, and it is useful for my further studies and understanding of the people of ancient Egypt.

A short but very comprehensive book on the concept of immortality in ancient Egypt. Definitely an influence on Christianity. I would recommend this book.
