I didn't really want to like the book but I did like it more then I was expecting. I loved the dynamic relationships and different lives of the two characters. Lots of it did seem unplausible and not very realistic but I did enjoy it nonetheless. Job well done.

A CEO, a writer, and a star quarterback walked into a bar. Sounds like the opening line to a really good joke, and you keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. But this isn’t a joke, this is one well-written hot and bothered novel. I love a good romance. I really love a well-written romance novel with a strong female protagonist who doesn’t let the leading man run over her. I hate lily-livered, simpering leading ladies, who sniff into their hankies and develop cases of the vapors (if only writers knew what vapors really were, LOL).
Nancy Herkness delivered a complex storyline that kept my attention and entertained my mind as well as my libido on more than one occasion. Her main characters were well developed with a lot of depth and complexity to their personalities that gave them believability and life that lifted them off the pages of the book. The brooding, but extremely intelligent hero is always a favorite in my book. I enjoyed watching this hero and the heroine matching wits as they sparred their way through the pages and sheets of the story. The surrounding characters were colorful and added to the story. The storyline itself was simple and straight forward, with a couple of small sub-plots that filled out the novel and gave some backstory to the characters.
It has been a long time since I have sat down and read a simple, straight forward story, where girl and boy meet. Boy has no desire to fall in love. Girl has no time for boy in her life. But life throws them together and BAM!!!! Life happens, sparks fly. One problem, the boy is the “king of the castle”. The girl hates “kings” and all things “rich and corporate”. Oh, he is not without his own foibles. Even though he is CEO and successful in his own right, he feels that he is a failure in his family’s eyes. Then the tables turn and she must come to his rescue and save him from himself.
I laughed, I cried, I sweated, I loved reading this, my first Nancy Herkness book. It won’t be my last.
A definite FIVE STAR rating.
It is a clever premise super rich guys who want to find real love. There is a strong focus on the sex scenes, but there is enough plot & character development to make it an enjoyable story.
Nathan is pretty adorable. He starts the book scorned by a women & falls in love with Chloe pretty quickly.
Chloe's motivation to stay away from love is a little murky she wants to keep her grandmother living with her, even though grandma seems to want to move to a retirement community. But grandma is all she has left, so Chloe clings to her tightly.
There is a fair amount of establishing why Nathan & Chloe are intellectually a match (and they have lots of "a-mah-zing" sex, as is required in a 2 week relationship). They do get to grow as people--Nathan has more of an arc than Chloe. I'm glad I read the book. The two other men who made the live bet seem different enough that I have hope that the following books won't follow the exact formula if this book.
This is a truly well done romance. The simple plot is enriched by the characters' internal musings on both his and her thoughts. The heroine is sweet, sincere, talented, and above all resistant to the wealth of the CEO.

After the beginning, the most unbelievable part of the plot, everything that follows is consistent with each personality. Of course, one seldom finds a temp receptionist who can immediately step into the job of personal assistant to a CEO of a large corporation; impress the boss with insightful work; then nurse that boss to health during a sudden bout of influenza.

However, the MC's personal choices from then on are fun and make sense. The obstacles of the workplace and Chloe's responsibilities for her grandmother provide good plot points for her growing interest in Nathan, the CEO. The gentleman must also learn to deal with "real" people who aren't employees.

The plot moves seamlessly along. The characters are interesting. The sex is plentiful. The "aah" moment when love conquers all is satisfying.

Not my usual genre, but VERY well done. Two thumbs up! (For anyone old enough to know the phrase.)
This was an ok book. A lot seemed unrealistic but when you're Billionaire Nathan Trainor you can do anything and have anything even a temp be your caretaker/secretary. Really, what type of person would spend the night in their boss' bedroom because he "doesn't feel good" and because she needs the money. I liked some of the characteristics in Chloe in that she was a strong individual at times, when it came to her home life and not letting Nathan venture too far into it with her grandmother. But really all the sex in the back of the town car built especially, it seems, for bedding down in the back and then stepping out and going about their day right after having sex. Maybe that's done more than I realize but I think there could have been so much more to this storyline than sex at every turn. Maybe a book can be written about the woman who owns the ultra-exclusive Bellwether Club or is there more about the other two men that Nathan made the bet with, Gavin Miller and Luke Archer.
