'When the pursuit of love trumps obligations.'First of all, the very title of this lovely book is intriguing and provoking our imagination. The style of its dynamic narrative is innovative and specific, but above all, really colorful and remarkable. The story is being developed gradually with some flashbacks and twists; which only enhances the storyline. The main protagonist is introduced through her parents' life exepreiences at first, including the life of her adoptive ones alongside. As for her adoptive parents, we still somewhat mysteriously lack a bit of substantial or rather factual information, although we were led to believe they really loved her and had given her all things necessary for the upbringing of a young girl in the US. Supposedly, that has been done on purpose, as the talk revolves around feelings and relationships rather than such additional details. The setting actually is multidimensional, spread over various geographic locations; whereas the plot begins before her physical birth. Her given name, which means 'Sweet', is not accidental either.
Moreover, I liked the lively descriptions of the author all around, including emotions, smells, situations, people, historical and cultural remarks/references, exotic cuisine, music and dance, lyrics, her homeland Guyana, to name but just a few.
Somehow, this book implies thoughts of courage, bravery, persistence, stamina, defending our own rights and identuty, but most of all, fighting for our true love.
I would definitely look forward to the next book in the Island Hopping Series.

The best way I can describe this book is that it is a romantic suspense mystery. Is that a thing? I don't know, but if it is then this book nailed it on the head.
The beginning hooks you right away, and then you are taken to a different place and time to meet the Petrina. This young women is married to the worst person possible. We follow her story while she finds the courage to leave her abusive husband with her new found love.
However, this is where the mystery begins. We know from the start of the book that something must have went terribly wrong for Petrina and her new found lover Mikey. Exactly what went wrong, I have no idea...but I can't wait to find out!
Multitalented author Janice Ross brought us something new with the Jumping Ship series. I'll admit I'm such a big fan is Damaged Girls that I wasn't prepared for a change. Yet, this new book hit me with all kinds of emotion. The separation of good and bad people all had a hand in this young girls search for identity and her past existence. I can only want the best for Pet and cross my fingers for a reconciliation with her daughter as the series continues.
Ross is giving us a plethora of emotion on a Caribbean island... And not just one island. I will be continuing this series to learn more about the people-- isn't that a plus to the story? I give Jumping Ship a big stamp of approval and high recommendation.
I was captivated by this novel from the very beginning, from the moment Pearl and Edward stumbled upon their life-changing gift. Sakkara was such lovely, lively girl, and of course she couldn't have asked for a better family to grow up with; still when she decides to look for her past, she does so wholeheartedly, with true determination. I loved her character so much!
I also rooted for Pet and Mikey, very much so. It was such a terrible situation Pet has found herself at, such heart-tearing dilemma. Will Sakkara ever forgive?
The atmosphere of the novel itself was another wonderful aspect. But could I just feel the warmth of the Caribbean sun and the softness of the breeze. I love books that transfer me to another place, and Jumping Ship did it for me in such an accomplished way! I can't wait to read the book in the series.

What I liked About "Jumping Ship"....
I found "Jumping Ship" a very good read that once you start it you will find it hard to put down. I loved how this author was able to pull her readers into the story and more over connect them with the characters. Also you can tell that this author really loved this country because of all the detailed description of it all near the Caribbean area as she brings us a good read. This was a love story with lots of mystery...as we follow a married woman and her lover and since this is a beginning of a series I am sure we will get a lots more. This is quite a read of a woman's strength in how she had dealt 'with an abusive husband, self awareness and love.' I will say that that part of the read was not pretty
but then Petrina meets Mikey. I don't want to give any of it away and spoil it for you...Just pick up this amazing read to see for yourself how this author brings it all so well to the readers. There seems to be three parts to this story where you will see it all told with such a intriguing captivating way as the story unfolds. If you are looking for a good romance novel you have come to the right place for "Jumping Ship" will give you in a well written heart warming love story that start this series.
