I bought this about a year ago, after reading most of the strips online. Sure, some will point out "Why buy the book when most of the strips are on the Web?" The point is the book is far more complete than the online version, and there is something infinitely satisfying about holding a real book in your hands rather than some artificially-lit screen. The book is far more portable, so you can take it with you while sloppin' the hogs or collecting cans for dinner money.

I find myself pulling this off the shelf for another read-through every few weeks, and it still has the same punch as the first time. The strip with the zookeeper's wife is an all-time favorite (I'm thinking about it right now...BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!). Too bad the PBF run wasn't longer, but it definitely finished on a high note.

To be totally honest, this was a complete impulse buy. The day I found PBF is the day I laughed more than I ever had on the internet, still to this day. That said, this is a gorgeous, full-color, hard-cover book that should last a long time. All of the classics strips are there plus a few extra gems. I love that each strip gets it's own page. If you are unfamiliar with PBF, think of it as a multi-paneled Far Side with a more adult/dark twist. Fantastic.
This is a hilarious series that I followed online. I read all the ones that he had up on his page and when I saw he was coming out with the book I read all his articles about it. So I was pumped! I ordered this as a book for my coffee table and its amazing. The outside art and quality of the hardcover is amazing. Very much worth the money. Also there are some strips he never published that are pretty funny. He explains what he was thinking, how they failed, as well as some of the similar ones that he didnt put out to ones he had. Love it!!!
I love these strips and they're right up my alley of random, sometimes sick, but usually unexpected humor. The humor is kind of like Family Guy in that it's random enough that you don't see what's going to happen next. I can watch half an episode of Family Guy before I realize I've seen it before and these strips are like that. I can pick up this book every six months or so and it's like reading most of the strips for the first time. A book with replay value!
If you're looking at this book, then you probably already know what the contents will be. No surprises here. I don't have the previous compilation, so it's nice to have a hard copy of these hilarious comics.

I will comment on the quality of the book itself...it's very nice. The pages are thick, bright, and luxurious. The cover is hard and durable, with the graphics printed directly on the surface and no dust jacket. It even has an attached red satin ribbon to act as a bookmark. This book will look great as a (sick and twisted) coffee table book. It's almost a shame to put it in a shelf as the cover is such eyecandy, and just as bright and colorful as the pages. I really wasn't expecting this level of quality, and I couldn't be happier.
I sort of bought this book out of a nagging sense of obligation. I love the PBF comics with my heart and soul (or lack thereof?) and the book promised something physical that I could come to for my fix as well as an opportunity to directly support the sale of such beautiful comedy. I was quite surprised by the make of the book; it's weighty and features an embossed cover of all things, in addition to an old-style ribbon bookmark. The prints of the comics themselves are large and impressive; even though I've spent countless hours pressing the "random" button on the PBF website, I saw aspects of these comics on paper that I've never seen before.

There are a lot of comics in this collection that were pulled from or never featured on the website. This fact alone makes this the definitive PBF collection, and it will remain so unless the site emerges from its extended inactivity. I will say that I found the unpublished (or flat-out rejected) comics to be hilarious, even if they were awful jokes, because they give quite a bit of insight into the creative process behind formulating such diabolical cartoons. There's also a great Q&A in the back. Highly recommended for fans.
Order the paperback and didn't know what to expect... but I got a hardcover, which is fantastic. Clearly if you're looking at this review then you're a die-hard fan of PBF and Nick Gurewitch, so I won't comment on the material itself (if you haven't seen his work, it'll change your sense of humor). The build of the hardcover is amazing - the cover is not glossy and the pages are clearly printed. He includes a lot of old and alternate strips to his classic work.
I have not bought many web comic books before, but this on I'm sure its the nicest. For starters, its huge. Roughly 11 by 9. hard cover, and the letters on the cover are actually indented making it extra fancy. Its also relatively thick for a web comic book. Just about an inch thick. Its got 255 pages, and it has one of those fabric string book marks that you mite find in a bible.
Each page has 2 comics on it. And at the end of the book are some never released comics that the artist just was not happy with. They are interesting, but I am sure I saw one of them on the internet before.
Over all, it's a great book just to leave on a coffee table for people to find and look at.

The only complaint I have is that it does not have every comic in it. As most web comics go, more stuff came out after the book was made. But the artist hardly ever updates the comic anymore, so it just seems a little odd. Its like he made the book, and then made like 5 more comics over the course of a year because he was bored. I actually thought the comic had finished. Seemed like it would have made more sense to officially end the comic, and then make the book. Maybe he did, but just couldn't stay away forever.

But still, it's a great book, and a great collection. The art on the cover is amazing. I have never seen a prettier book in my life. A great collection of one of the weirdest comics out there.
